BAKSPEILET
Curated by Martyn Reed (Nuart)
This collection of international film and animation is just a small example of how artists and directors are applying the medium of film and new-technology to the genre commonly know as “Street Art”.
From Norway to Japan and all in between, Street Art, taking its cue and modus operandi from Graffiti is currently sweeping the globe, invading museums & renowned galleries as well as auction & publishing houses. At the same time, there is creative spirit that is being expressed in so many different ways all over the walls of our streets in so many different mediums & styles. Graffiti for an internet and advertising savvy generation with access to cheap creative technologies and the will to get things done.
These films, though far from showing the complete picture, will give people on the street a short and interesting introduction into the world of Street Art and show how the medium of film is being used to both document and create some of the most interesting, relevant and dynamic pieces of contemporary art currently being produced the world over.
RINPA ESHIDAN (JP)
1 week of Artworks
Duration 05.49
A motion-painting project shown on the surface of a wall, this piece documents a week in the life of the Rinpa Eshidan.
Room
Duration : 04.50
Noiz-Davi: Artistic Direction, 2D Art
Daisuke Yamamoto: Artistic Direction, 2D Art
D.H.Rosen: 3D Art
Akari Sasai : 3D Art
Xola: Set Building, 2D Art
"Rinpa" is a word created by the founders of the group meaning "to bring people together, while "Eshidan" essentially means "art crew." The Rinpa Eshidan is a team of artists brought together by a common creative expression.
The Rinpa Eshidan core team is made up of Noiz-Davi, Daisuke Yamamoto, D.H.Rosen, Akari Sasai and XOLA . The group's main activities are performing in live-art events and creating videos of art in action.
“Instead of focusing on the finished project, we believe the process of creation itself is where art comes to life and our videos and live art aim to engage our audience in that process. Many people ask us how we can stand to erase the artwork we have worked so hard to create, but our focus is on the process of making art, not the end result. The good news is that the videos we make become a permanent record of the spontaneous artworks created during the filming”

"GRAFFITI ANALYSIS" Version : Nuart 09

Featuring Tags from Swoon, David Choe, Verbs, Chris Stain, Brad Downey and many more..
Graffiti Analysis makes visible the unseen movements of graffiti writers in the creation of a tag. Motion tracking, computer vision technology, and a custom C++ application are used to record and analyze a graffiti writer's pen movement over time. These gestures are processed to produce
algorithmically-generated digital projections that appear in motion on the surfaces of buildings in New York City. Relationships are created between analog and digital graffiti styles, forming a link among traditional graffiti, experimental street art, and new media. Graffiti is re-presented in the language of information analysis, offering a system for greater understanding of a highly coded form of creative expression.
What Martha Cooper did for archiving graffiti on film, and Chalfant/Silver did for archiving graffiti in video, Graffiti Analysis intends to do for archiving graffiti in code. The project aims to build the world's largest archive of graffiti motion and bring together two seemingly disparate communities that share an interest hacking systems, whether found in code or in the city.
Graffiti Analysis is a project by Evan Roth. Graffiti Analysis 2.0 was launched in December and the newest addition to the family is “Dust Tag”, an application developed for the iphone.

BLU (IT)
"MUTO"
A Short film by Blu
Duration : 07.26
An ambiguous animation painted on public walls.
Made in Buenos Aires and in Baden (fantoche)

music by Andrea Martignoni
produced by Mercurio Film
assistant: Sibe
Blu is known for his large, often surreal artwork presented in public spaces. Blu creates two-dimensional works of art across various landscapes that he later turns into a stop-motion film, allowing his art to take on a whole new persona. The sheer size and detail put into each movement of the graffitied scene is remarkable, given the amount of time that goes into the planning alone.
Blu’s artwork is unique in that it presents itself as legal street graffiti – while simultaneously covering other, non-sanctioned street art. MUTO is an incredible piece of Blu’s work in which his characters crawl across the walls and buildings of both Buenos Aires and Baden, Germany. The film has been viewed over 5.9 million times on youtube.
